Halloween Costumes from your Closet

As Halloween is nearing, I thought it would be fun to come up with some costumes that most people would have in their own closets. This is especially great if you have a last minute party, or just don't want to spend the money on a costume. I came up with some common but unique in their own way costumes that I hope you'll enjoy!
Where's Waldo
Starting with a classic, I made myself a girl version of Where's Waldo. Just wear a pair of jeans with a red striped shirt. These are my American Eagle boyfriend jeans. The shirt is from Forever 21, but you can find one pretty much anywhere. These are my favorite sneakers from Target. You can add a red striped hat if you have one to really complete the look.
Blast from the Past
This is one of my favorite Halloween costumes. It is so easy and there are so many ways to do it. You can find items like this from Good Will or even your parent's closets. This jumper is from a rummage sale I went to (their clothes were $1 for a garbage bag!). This patterned sweater is super soft and reversible!! I paired it with the same American Eagle jeans and Target sneakers.
Bank Robber
This is another classic costume. I wore my black utility jeans from Rue 21 paired with a Forever 21 striped black and white shirt. I added my JCPenny's combat boots (I love these things!). I added a bag with a dollar sign drawn on it for a prop.
Cute Kitty
This may be the most common Halloween costume, but I think there are so many ways to do it. For this kitty I wore the same jeans and boots, but added a plain black teeshirt from Body Central. You could add cheetah print shoes if you have them. I then added these super cute cat ears that I made out of animal print pipe cleaners and a headband.
Classy Kitty
For a different take on the cat costume, I wore this skater dress from TJ Maxx and added a brown studded belt. Under this I wore cheetah print tights I found in the kid's section at Target. I paired that with my DIY Oxford sneakers. I finished it with a pair of studded cat ears that I also made.
3 Hole Punch Paper
This is my personal favorite because I think it is so funny! I wore a dress shirt tucked into my slacks from Sears. I wore a simple pair of H&M black heals. I then cut out three black circles and taped them to the side of my shirt. Let me know if you know what this is from (You'll be my new best friend!) in the comments. I'll give you a hint: you might couple costume it with the kitty.

I hope these ideas helped you for Halloween this year. Let me know what you're going as and if you understand the reference from the last costume!

A Week in My Style

It's Fall! I love fall and all things autumnal; especially clothing. This week's weather where I lived was the perfect temperature for fall. Because of this, my outfits are becoming warmer and essentially fall.
This may be my favorite outfit of those I'm going to show you. This outfit was based around these boots that I had just bought at Kmart. I looked for shoes like this last year but couldn't find any I particularly liked, so when I saw these ones, I had to buy them! Kmart was actually having a BOGO $1 sale on their shoes so I was extra sold on them! So for the rest of the outfit, I wore army green pants from Rue 21 and a pair of knee high socks peeking out of the boot. I've been loving doing this with my boots this year. These socks are from Kohl's. My tank top is from JCPenny's and actually came with the necklace. I then added my brown cardigan from American Eagle to complete the look.
The next day was a little chillier, so I layered up. I started with my Abbey Road baseball tee. This shirt is three quarters length sleeves, and I have no idea where it's from. I added my green button up from American Eagle over it. This shirt has gotten so much wear. I love it because it is thick enough it keeps you warm, but thin enough it can be worn on like a summer night, so it can be worn all year. I just paired this with my skinny jeans from PacSun. I wore higher white socks that peeked out of my black combat boots, and finished with my hand made chocker.
I've been wanting to wear this dress for a while, so I decided that now would be the perfect time. This is a teeshirt dress but with long sleeves. I got it at H&M last year. I added a black belt to make it more form-fitting. To keep my legs warm, I added some black sheer tights. I wore gray boots from Rue 21 with black socks peeking out for contrast. I added a pop of color by adding my maroon knit scarf from Rue 21.
I love this dress so much! I just bought it at Target on clearance. It is so soft, but really thick. I added a thin black belt to define my waist. Because it was black and white, I wanted to add some color with my tights, so I chose a maroon pair from Rue 21. Once again, I wore my black combat boots with my white socks peeking out. (I told you I liked that look this year!)
It turned out that me and two of my best friends were actually coordinating that day and I thought it was so cute! Farthest from me, her outfit is from American eagle, as are the jeans in the middle outfit. I'm not sure where the shoes or the maroon shirt are from.
For the last outfit, I chose a more relaxed look. My light washed jeans are from PacSun. I have a lace trim tank top under my gray sweater from Sears. This sweater was on sale, so I bought it in brown, gray, and black! My shoes are just my gray canvas sneakers from Target. I'm not sure where my necklace is from, and it's actually missing pieces.

I hope you enjoyed seeing what I tend to wear! Make sure you follow me on Instagram to see more of my everyday looks! I think next week I'm going to have last minute Halloween costume ideas so watch out for that one!

My Closet

I thought I'd do something a little different for this week's blog. I always really like to see how other people organize their clothes so that I can get inspiration and ideas, so I thought you might like to see mine as well!

So first off, this is a clothing rack that I have in my bedroom. I got the rack at Ikea, and it is one of my favorite purchases. I use it to put on clothes I would most likely wear at the time of the year, as well as outfits for these blogs. I have it separated by style: skirts, dresses, tank tops, tee-shirts, sweaters, collared shirts, and finally jackets. Under this rack in a basket from Michaels, I have my scarfs. The two pictures above the rack are from Michaels and I made the bunting.
My closet is a large walk-in, because my sister got to design this room as our basement was unfinished. Thankfully, she wanted a giant closet and when she moved out five years ago, it became mine! The shelves at the back are mostly for storage.
This first dresser is a white one my sister painted. I store my tops in it. The two tins up top are where I keep my lesser worn jewelry (my commonly worn jewelry is in my bathroom). Each drawer has a different type of shirt in it. Starting at the top, I have my nice tee-shirts, camisoles, sweaters, nice tank tops, sweaters, and overflow tank tops/sweaters.
For my camisoles, I put them in color order from white to black. I did this one day when I was bored and imagined it would only last for a few weeks, and that was three years ago! It makes it really easy to find the one you need so I would definitely recommend it!
I store my tank tops and camisoles like this so that I can see each one better. My tank tops are not in any real order but my more commonly worn ones are on the right side.
Because sweaters are bulky and I have a lot of them, I also have this bookshelf that I use for storage. On top I have floral arrangements from Michaels inside of tins from Ikea. The first shelf is where I keep wallets and makeup bags as well as a couple pictures. The next two shelves are for my sweaters.
Moving along my closet, we come to this brown dresser. This is wear I store my bottoms. My jeans are in the first drawer. Then I have my sweat pants and sofi shorts. The open drawer is where I keep my leggings and shorts as well as my overflow jeans. The bottom two drawers are broken, and therefore empty. This is also the place I get ready at, so I have my mirror and makeup on top of the dresser.
This shelf along the back of the closet is where I keep the rest of my makeup and hair care as well as my tee-shirts.
I have this tall chair that I use to get ready on, and then I have this red table from Ikea.
Under this table, I have a milk crate and another bin. I put a piece of plexiglass in the crate to create two slots. This is where I keep my socks; ankle socks on one side and knee socks on the other. In the pink bin, I keep my stockings and underwear.
On top, I have two other baskets (This is my favorite way to store things). In the basket, I have bralettes and bandeaus. In the brittsco13 basket (from Thirtyone) I keep my swimsuits. I also have a tin with a candle in it and three tee-lights that smell like apple pie from Ikea.
Lastly, I have a hanging section for my dresses and skirts. Under this I have my hope chest with items for the future. On top of it, I have my hoodies because I couldn't find anywhere else to put them!

I know this is a different blog, but I thought you might like it! Please let me know what other types of blogs you'd like to see, and I'll be back next week!

Fall Layering!

One thing I love about fall is the ability to layer your clothes. In the morning it is cold, so you dress warm, but by the end of the day you're sweating, so layering allows you to control your temperature. This is what I wore on Tuesday, so I thought I'd show you a few variations depending on the weather.
Starting off plain and simple with this black and white striped shirt from Target tucked into a pair of high-waisted black jeans from Rue 21. I paired this with my diy shoes. They were originally white canvas sneakers from Target that I painted to look like oxfords. http://momspark.net/faux-painted-oxfords-diy/ This is the tutorial I used if you're interested. I then accessorized with a long necklace from Aeropostale and a homemade choker necklace.
For a little bit of warmth, I simply added this yellow sweater. This is Faded Glory brand, but I'm not sure where it's from. This mustard yellow is my favorite color for fall because it's such a bright pop of color compared to the usual black and burgundy.
A way to add more warmth is of course a scarf. This one is a hunter green infinity scarf from Rue 21. I liked the color combination of the green and yellow. This scarf is neat, because it is ruffled so it adds more texture.
This is a thicker knit scarf for extra warmth. I like the neutrality of this one. I actually arm knitted this scarf, but you can find similar ones anywhere (or make your own!).

This is just one outfit I love to layer, but there are so many more ways to layer in the fall. Let me know how you like to layer your outfits! I'll see you next week. Also, Happy October!!
